Lean is a systematic method of reducing waste in a proces, without sacrificing productivity. Put from the perspective of the consumer, Lean eliminates any process that does not add value - value for which the final customer is willing to pay.
The basis of Lean principles are derived from the works of Benjamin Franklin. He points that "Avoiding unnecessary costs can be more efficient than increasing sales."
The Lean Phislosophy identifies 7 types of waste (MUDA) in business:
Waste of waiting (Muda of Waiting)
Waiting is a normal component of any activity. Be it so, 10 seconds of waiting each hour, add up to 27 minutes lost in a month of work. And 10 seconds go unnoticed.

How to eliminate?
When it is motivated by interdepartment communication, or by multiple softwares used, MUDA of Waiting can be eliminated by integration into your website or into an intranet of a software that eases the work of your employees using:
Real time communication
(automatic interdepartment notifications, real time communication platforms, etc.)
Automatization of actions
Waste of defects (Muda of Defects)
Jidoka implementation is obvious in production systems, but how about jidoka for services? The possibility of being notified from the first unconformity exists for any business.
It only has to be exploited.

How to eliminate?
Far end Jidoka
(implementation of a system for feedback collection, error or defect screening, based on human input).
Waste of overprocessing (Muda of Overprocessing)
From orders management to invoicing and receiving payments, all can be automated in a formula that allows directing your attention to the features desired by your clients and to the activities that emphasize the true potential of your employees.
x
How to eliminate?
Overprocessing exists in every process. Most of the time, it can be eliminated through:
Automatization of actions
(Issuing and sending of documents, orders processing, reporting, notifications, etc.).
Waste of movement (Muda of Movement)
Be it real unncessary movement (such as, in order to obtain information in person), or by the unninterrupted travel between multiple programs, the waste of movement has visible effects on any business.
x
How to eliminate?
Waste of movement is one of the easiest to identify and eliminate. For example through:
Real time communication
Integrated functions and activities
Waste of production (Muda of Production)
Even if it translates to products in stock or final presentations that are of no interest to anyone, waste of production can be avoided with little effort.

How to eliminate?
Intuitive MTO (Pull) system
(creating competitive advantages, easing the order and notification processes)
Automatization of actions
Waste of transportation (Muda of Transportation)
Isolated to some specific areas of activity, Muda of Transportation can be reduced as a result of a complex process.
x
How to eliminate?
Automatized algorhytms
(Prognosing the quantity of material based on variable data and reporting to the departments of interest)
Waste of inventory (Muda of Inventory)
End of list because it also applies to specific areas of activity, Muda of Inventory can be reduced by implementation of a SMART system for stock management.

How to eliminate?
Automatized algorhytms
(Prognosing the quantity of material based on variable data and reporting to the departments of interest or even sending preorders to the selected vendors).
